This week’s feature was all about family - the business name ‘Ohana’ meaning exactly that. And it really got me thinking.
This is something a lot of our suppliers have in common. Family is at the heart of everything that they do. Firstly, many of my suppliers are family people themselves. The bakers, the florists, the chefs and bartenders… they’ve all been searching for a career that will help them do something they really love whilst also balancing a busy family life. Something that can work around their kids and home life while also helping them pursue a passion of their own. Secondly, they understand why family is so important to their clients. After all, what is a wedding if not starting a family and bringing two existing ones together? What’s a party or special occasion without all our loved ones being there?! They understand the importance of treating those special people in our lives - whether they’re providing balloons, decorations, cakes, food, special experiences or memorable moments - that’s exactly why they do what they do! Because they know how much it means to you to celebrate the way you want to. And they want to make it as perfect as possible for you. I began this website after a few years working in weddings because I was so blown away by the people who were contributing to making them so special. It’s not just about the big hotel chains or fancy designer dresses, but the lovely lady down the road who’s making your bridal bouquet. The couple who own the barn you’ve hired for your reception. The guys in the band who are going to entertain your guests all evening! Individuals who are brave, talented, fun, kind and who genuinely care about giving you the best day possible! I guess that's why I love weddings that think outside the box a little. Street food vans or pizza ovens, horsebox bars and cocktail pop-ups, magicians and musicians, lawn games and light-up letters... because these are all things provided by amazing individuals who can turn your event from awesome to extraordinary - and not only are they there to help you, but you're keeping their dream alive, too. That’s why I love to support family businesses. They make it personal, they give it 100% and they do incredible work (and believe me when I say they put everything into their work) to ensure you have everything you could possibly need. And in booking them, not only do you get their wonderful goods and services - and perhaps a new best friend, too - but you’re supporting their dream and helping their family. It puts the food on their table, the roof over their heads, the pennies in the kids' piggy banks. And it’s the most wonderful thing to see!
