Five Things You Might Like To Know About Me...

25/5/2023

Hello to any new followers and those who are just finding my blog/website for the first time!
I thought it might be nice to give you a little introduction to me and help you learn a bit more about Lindsay the wedding planner, and also Lindsay the human too!
And although the rest of you have come across me before or followed for a little while, I feel like you may learn something new about me too...

I describe my wedding planning style as 'relaxed and realistic', but what does that mean?!

Let’s get the work stuff out of the way first! If you were to ask me to sum up my approach to wedding planning, I feel like that would tell you everything you need to know.

Relaxed:

Forget any pre-conceived ideas you have about sassy wedding planners because you won’t find that here. I won’t be bossing you about or breathing down your neck 24/7, and you’ll never find me trying to influence your decisions. I can advise, give pointers, prevent any disasters from happening(!), but I’m not here to take over entirely.

I find that most of the couples I work with actually enjoy doing much of the planning themselves; I’m mostly booked by couples who choose DIY spaces like barns and tipis and are ready to throw themselves in and get creative. I’m just there as a sounding board and to offer a little reassurance.

If you’re actually the kind of person who does want more support, that’s totally fine. I’m happy to take the whole thing on! But we’ll always work together and go about things in a way that hopefully feels calm, controlled and maybe (hopefully!) even enjoyable for you too!

Realistic:

I like to stay pretty level-headed, so I’ll help you work out what’s actually doable depending on your budget, your numbers, your venue requirements and of course all your likes & dislikes.

Don’t get me wrong - I want to help you have the best day ever and really create something amazing. Let’s not be boring and stay inside the box; we can be bold, colourful and brave! But I’m never going to push you into something that’s not right for you, and I don’t want you making decisions based on things like Insta likes or what you've seen everyone else doing. I’ll help you to work out what you love and what’s important, then make a plan on how to get it. That way you end up having a day you love through and through in a way that works for you.

I LOVE travel and adventure. Plus, I'm a massive foodie!

Although sometimes it feels like I work 24/7 (!) I do have some interests outside of weddings…

Travel has been a huge part of my life for the last ten years or so. It started when I studied French at uni and I went out to live in Dijon. That Summer I interrailed around Europe and went to 16 cities in 12 countries in less than 4 weeks - it was literally the best summer ever!

Since then I’ve been across Canada, walked on the Great Wall of China, backpacked Scandinavia, bussed my way through the Baltics, visited Oz and NZ… and I did it all on my own! I can’t tell you how much I loved rocking up in a hostel, getting my map out and planning my adventures.

I LOVE trying all the different foods and taking in different cultures. I’ve also worked in catering most of my adult life and I’m a bit obsessed with cookery shows, so food is always close to my heart. Running a wedding business is nothing like my old job, but I do love that I still spend lots of time in kitchens and helping people pick their dream menus.

Covid put a halt to a lot of my travel plans, and losing my job/starting a new business has meant my priorities have had to change for a while but I can’t wait to get back out on the road, starting this October with a charity trek to Petra... wish me luck!

Having said that, I'm a home bird at heart

I have to say it, I LOVE BRUM.
I also love living in Worcestershire, and I love being close to my friends and family.

I have four awesome nieces and nephews who I try to see as much as possible - football matches, going to the park, and as many cuddles and squeezes as I can physically fit in. They range from 6 months to 15 years old, so some like snuggles more than others now… but they’re all total legends and my absolute pride and joy.

Other hobbies include walks in the forest, going out to dinner (of course) and coffee dates with this handsome fella:

That's Nath, and you might see him pop up at my open days or tagging along to some of the meetups. He's my number one fan, and he's always willing to get stuck in as he learns the crazy world of weddings!

I used to read a lot but I fell out of the habit when work started taking over, so I’ve set myself a challenge this year to read one book per month. So far I’ve re-read Nineteen Eighty Four (one of my faves), finished Life Of Pi, Paolo Coehlo’s The Alchemist and Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club. Any other recommendations for the coming months gratefully received!

I’m also teetotal. Well, pretty much… I can’t resist the odd glass of Prosecco, but put a mocktail in my hand and I’m super happy! Alternatively, make me a good brew and we’ll be best of friends.

I have LITERALLY no idea what my own wedding would be like!

If I were to ever get married (and believe me over the years I've been back and forth on the idea!), I don’t know what kind of wedding I’d want for myself. I’ve seen so much that I love that I don’t know how to settle on just one theme! I guess it’s the definition of good problems, but it would honestly fry my brain trying to decide.

I'm great at helping other people work out what they like/dislike, but it feel totally different trying to decide for yourself.
I have seen nude/neutral weddings that are beautiful, but I LOVE pops of colour and bold designs. I absolutely love a celestial theme, but then I adore retro vibes. I like soft and delicate flowers, but I also can’t get enough of modern installations. You guys have given me so many good ideas over the years that it’s got me in a pickle!

Although I go back to the same venues time and time again, I love that it is so different for each wedding. No two days have ever been the same, and that’s the real joy of my job. Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking that I only work in certain places or take on certain kinds of weddings - I can’t wait to branch out more and more! Whether you’re getting married in a tipi, a marquee, a barn, a chapel, on a farm, in a mansion or even in your own home, I would love to come along and help you have your absolute dream day. Maybe you’ll even give me some more inspiration and introduce me to some more new ideas!

What's my five year plan?

The one thing that running a business has taught me is that sometimes you just have to ride the waves! Some months I’ll have loads of enquiries and sometimes it goes quiet. Sometimes I’m in full-on coordinator mode and sometimes it’s just admin and emails from the comfort of my sofa. It’s good to just go with the flow sometimes. However, I always like to have a plan (I mean, surely that’s why I’m so good at my job?!)

What I really want is to see my business grow. More weddings in new locations with different types of couples. I’m already lucky enough to travel and do some awesome things, so more of that please! There are a few other little pipe dreams in the back of my mind, too, but we’ll see where life takes us…

Other than that, more travels and more ticks on the bucket list ideally. The one thing I love about working for myself is having more control over when and where I work - I work hard and I work a LOT but it’s also important to me to take a break and fill my cup with lots of other lovely things too!

You can keep an eye on my blogs and socials to see what I’m getting up to and maybe learn a little more about me, but please do get in touch if you’d like to have a chat and find out more!

I organise lots of supplier social events and am always up for making friends with people in the industry just so that we all have a little human interaction - it’s good for our sanity! So I'd like to make more of that too. Couples are ALWAYS welcome to get in touch too. Enquiries can come through to
[email protected] or visit the WEDDINGS page on this website to get the info. Pop your details into the box at the bottom to get my Introductory Guide land in your inbox.

New couples, please say hi!
Previous couples, please stay in touch!
Suppliers, let's make friends!
And I hope to meet some of you soon.
