The Finer Details

One of my top tips for brides and grooms is to DO WHAT MAKES THEM HAPPY. It’s your day, and you need to do it your way!

I truly believe that some of the greatest weddings are those where you rip up the rule book and create something of your own - if you want to wear a leopard print jumpsuit, have pizza for dinner or walk down the aisle to Iron Maiden then I am all over it! But even if you want to go for something more traditional it’s nice to be able to do a little something that makes your wedding stand out. You don’t just want a carbon copy of a Pinterest board. You want something that makes a statement about who you are (and who you’re marrying!).

T hese things don’t have to break the bank. Sometimes it’s the littlest things that make the biggest difference; those that when your guests notice them they’ll be smiling from ear to ear. Here are a few little touches that I just love that you may want to consider for your big day…

Mr(s) & Mr(s)

Whether balloons, banners or backdrops, having a little something that says Mr & Mrs (or the appropriate equivalent) is a lovely touch to remind everyone of what a happy occasion we’re celebrating! Sometimes it’s a simple sign hanging on the back of your chair, or you might want to write it in big neon lights! Either way, it can look seriously sweet.

The Cake Topper
I mean, you can have these made for just a few pounds but they are such a lovely way of adding a personal touch to the day. Your cake might be a real statement, so why not finish it off with something fabulous or funny?!
And while we’re on the subject, if you don’t want a plain, boring cake… don’t get one! Make it colourful, choose a theme, have tiny characters of yourselves or your pets made out of fondant sitting on the top tier… whatever floats your boat!

Wedding favours
Your wedding favours should say something about you - and it shouldn’t be “we are total cheapskates”. Maybe you want to go for something sustainable, something meaningful, something charitable or even something homemade. Think of something that’s in keeping with the day, that will look beautiful on the table but that will also say a little something about the happy couple!

Personalised clothes
As I say, I love it when a bride does her own thing, and that’s never truer than when she ditches the white dress for something a little different. But even if you wear the classic long gown, your outfit can still look rad. Denim or leather jackets can look brilliant in your photos, they can be personalised with your new surname or with a design that you love, or you can even have a matching set for your bridesmaids/best men/the happy couple! And let’s face it, knowing the British weather, it’ll probably come in pretty handy!

Table names & place settings

Here’s one you can do for free!
One of my favourite bits of a wedding is seeing what names have been given to the tables. Are they named after the couple’s favourite songs? Countries they’ve travelled to? Are they named after flowers, books or chocolate bars?! You can get a little creative and choose something that will really make your guests smile and that reflects something about you
