Take a quirky inner-city wedding venue, a team of incredible stylists, florists and creatives, then add your favourite photography duo...

... and you're bound to come up with something special!

This time around we went bold with the brief, big on colour, and finished with possibly my favourite photos to date.

What are the PRO events?

so, if you didn't already know, i've begun hosting a series of wedding fayres & open days for engaged couples. they're designed to inspire and bring fresh ideas for those currently planning a wedding, as well as giving you the chance to visit some awesome venues & meet some of the very best wedding suppliers in worcestershire & beyond.

My wedding pros come in all shapes and sizes - a variety of caterers, florists, stylists, celebrants and a whole host of amazing wedding industry experts. the pro events give you a chance to meet us, chat with us & immerse yourself in the wedding world, finding gems to take away with you to elevate your own day!

When we go to town creating a great setup for you, we sometimes add in a little shoot, too, to really get the most out of the day. This also ensures we've captured plenty of pics to share with you later too!

so let me tell you all about this one...
A same-sex couple are walking through the courtyard outside Shack Revolution. One bride wears a short wedding dress, and holding a dried flower crown. She is holding a bright dried flower bouquet in the air. Her wife is wearing a purple suit.

The Venue

I had wanted to do something at Shack Revolution for the longest time. it's an inclusive wedding venue and i've always admired it due to its versatility and its TENDENCY to host some big, bold weddings. this is a city centre venue with an industrial feel that lends itself so well to alternative styling and colourful decor - two things i love to see at a wedding.

it also tends to attract some extraordinary couples: People who think outside the box; People who want to be bold & brave (but not necessarily fussy); People who want to be expressive, show personality and be totally authentically themselves.

That's something I can get on board with!

The Concept

once i'd booked the venue, I knew that I wanted to do something fun with it, something different.

There were a few suppliers I already had in mind - people who knew shack revolution well, and who wouldn't be afraid of trying something new. I knew we could be a little daring, and I was adamant that I wanted this setup to be bright and colourful. the previous events I had hosted had either had a monochrome theme or soft, subtle tones and I wanted to go in a different direction (plus I'd promised Kerri from Dearest Love that next time I'd throw the kitchen sink at it!)

I racked my brain - what should our theme be?

I like to give suppliers some kind of moodboard to go off, so that we know we're all on the same page. then, they're free to run with it and I trust them to turn my little scribbles on paper into the masterpiece you see in the pics. But where should we begin?

Well, this is what I came up with...

Image shows a moodboard of old retro sweets - parma violets, refreshers, fruit salads and rainbow jazzies. There are colourful cakes, dried flower bouquets and bright table setups with disco balls and streamers

WHEN I THOUGHT OF COLOUR, I THOUGHT OF ALL THE ONES THAT YOU ALWAYS SEE AT WEDDINGS - SAGE GREEN, DUSKY PINK, BABY BLUE. AND THEN I THOUGHT OF ALL THE COLOURS I WISH I SAW A LITTLE MORE OF - PURPLE, TURQUOISE, SUNSHINE YELLOW. HOW COULD WE INCORPORATE THIS INTO OUR PLANS?

I STARTED GOOGLING 'PARMA VIOLETS' TO FIND something in THAT BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT LILAC. and that's when I fell DOWN A RABBIT HOLE...

THE PINK & ORANGE OF FRUIT SALADS.
THE BLUE & YELLOW OF REFRESHERS CHEWS.
THE MULTICOLOURED RAINBOW JAZZIES.
RETRO SWEETIE HEAVEN.

IT WAS DECIDED.
OUR DAY WAS TO BE BASED ON A GIANT BAG OF PICK&MIX!

The Setup

we had a couple of different areas that we wanted to dress so that we could show just what the venue has to offer, as well as giving you guys ideas for how to style up the spaces.

THE TABLESCAPE

we began in 'the workshop', where we wanted to create a fun, colourful tablescape. A long trestle table with twelve settings dressed just as your wedding would be: complete with Charger plates, candles, bud vases, centrepieces (and, of course, plenty of disco balls!)

Our stylist, elise from valentine wedding decor,  found some incredible table runners with pink and orange details, which were so reminiscent of fruit salad sweets and were oozing with 90s nostaglia! Add the bright, multicoloured textured napkins, the glitter of the mirrorballs, softened slightly by the pastel candles and crockery (we didn't want it to be too much, you know?!), and we had a pretty epic setup.

I can't tell you how much I loved the stationery which poppy kate press added too! Not only were the name cards dreamy little love hearts, but the font was spot on, the colours were just right... it was the most perfect pastel rainbow!

and then...
just to be sure that it was bold enough, striking enough, colourful enough...

we hung the most epic streamadelica streamers from the ceiling, dangled pompoms from every available surface, and covered the table with handful after handful of heart-shaped colourful confetti. chef's kiss.

THE Cake table

Behind the tablescape, WE ALSO INCLUDED A display FOR THE GORGEOUS LOVE HEART wedding CAKE PROVIDED BY THE BOHEMIAN BAKERY because, well, every cake deserves to have its moment. so often the styling of the cake table is overlooked, and we wanted to be sure this one took pride of place!

the quirky wedding cake was another explosion of colour, with pink buttercream and icing in just about every colour of the rainbow! It matched perfectly with our theme.

we also added A PICK & MIX STATION, AND used A SAILBOARD BACKDROP TO ADD A SPLASH OF COLOUR TO THE REST OF THE ROOM - the latter doubled as a table plan with more love hearts displaying the names of each table (rainbows drops, jazzies, flying saucers...) and the guest names hanging below (in this case, just for demonstration purposes, the names of each of the suppliers!)

THE Ceremony

the 'lean-to' at Shack revolution is ideal for hosting your ceremony, so we laid out some chairs and created an aisle with focal pieces at the front. One thing I love about this space is that it has that gorgeous industrial feel with the brickwork and plain black & white details, but it can so easily be styled in so many different ways.

because we wanted a super FUN AND COLOURFUL CEREMONY BACKDROP, we repurposed the sailboards from the previous setup to bring in the yellow, lilac & magenta from our colour palette, then petalhead flowers provided incredible dried floral installations which added some striking pops of pink & yellow, with smaller bunches displayed in those fabulous disco balls vases.

to add to the shoot, we invited Jules, treasured words celebrant, to come along and she showed us how you can incorporate some really fun and interesting elements into your ceremony by having our couple 'jump the broom'.

THE FLATLAY

we really do need to take a moment for this incredible wedding stationery!

I love it when couples choose something a little unconventional, and when the theme continues beyond the tables and decor into the other elements of the day too.

by incorporating the colours and the fonts of the old school retro sweets, the name cards and menus elevated the setup to a whole other level. It set the 'pick & mix' vibe off perfectly,

with a few stripy sweetie bags, a smattering of retro sweets and a sprinkling of confetti, look how great this turned out!

THE outdoors

There were a few final things we wanted to snap before we wrapped up the shoot...

There are some fabulous little spots around shack revolution - for an urban, city centre venue, it really packs a lot in.

Firstly, there's the courtyard which is glorious on a sunny day, especially for your guests to enjoy a few drinks. We also had the brilliant wedding pizza co serving up delicious pizza, and this was the perfect spot to sit and indulge!

Then, there's the hideout where couples can prep and get ready on the morning of the wedding. A cute little corner tucked away for a little privacy and a moment of calm & quiet.

We also made use of the space outside the venue to get this incredible confetti shot!

THE EXTRAS

We had some amazing finishing touches and awesome additions that i needed to shout out too.

the photobooth from booths 2 u always provides some good entertainment at our open days, and definitely gave us a few extra fun photos for the shoot!

the bespoke wedding accessories made by b loved designs also went down a storm - the custom made cold cups with the retro sweets and  couples' names were a treat, as well as the personalised wedding sunglasses.

for our open day we also had some incredible live music from tasha bennett music which included some old school anthems in amongst some of our wedding favourites. It got us all up & dancing, and i'd recommend tash to anyone!

and the food from rustic roast kitchen was, as always incredible!
